Half of all respondents said they consider themselves “fat” and wish they were “toned” and “less jiggly.” When we released the responses of women, we found that 57% women felt this way and males slightly less (42%) were themselves judged severely. Unfortunately, as we age, we are not all friendly ourselves. Among women aged 35 and older, 62% are fat / no tonic / too jiggly when they look at their bodies.
The encouraging news is that young women feel pretty good about what they see. Among 18-34 year olds, 40% said either “I watch a lot” or “not perfect but I look pretty good.” Among the men in the same age, 52% ticked the positive responses.
We are quick to point out that the body parts we do not like
Perhaps the many articles targeting abs flat or swing with no arms or booty call are partly to blame. Perhaps most of us are perfectionists and want to believe that strengthening a muscle group or area of the body will do everything OK. Whatever the reason, a surprising 81% of men and women told us they can identify what they perceive their problem areas to be.
Twenty-one percent of women voted “legs” as the least favorite body part and 11% of men said they are less satisfied with their backs. Weapons came in second for both sexes.
