Crisis in Education – How parents can help today

In Chile, an evaluation of the teachers with the not so surprising result that 30% of them rated as “unsatisfactory.”

We also evaluated the level of education of current students of pedagogy with the chaotic result that less than 60% of them were able to respond more than half of the questions. So far the government has determined that any person with higher education can teach in schools, despite not having studied pedagogy.

Linda salad. The education system is in crisis. And not only in Chile. Beyond the blame game, it’s time that we as parents do something and stop relying on the Titanic of education will still take 20 years to change course.

Seek solutions. We, the parents, girls can be as agile boats that turn immediately and able to adapt to the new winds are blowing. We must seek to complement or replace traditional education with more efficient systems.

For those who want to be more radical, the “homeschooling,” or home schooling is an excellent choice. But I also believe that education can be supplemented by placing it back in the hands of those who will be accountable to God for the education of their children: parents.

How can we participate?

First, to get more involved in our children’s educational establishment.

The government has already opened the doors. Any person with an unblemished character, sufficient knowledge and dedication to service can now go to the classroom as a teacher.

Secondly we can complement the Hooked on Phonics education of our children to become more involved in their lives outside school. Discipleship is the most powerful way to teach something and takes place when the student walks by the teacher and lives his life with him.

In other words, invite your children to live their life with you! Share with them their struggles, challenges, anxieties and dreams. Invite them to help find solutions to their problems together and explain that you take certain decisions.

A very effective way to inspire them to learn is to do something together with them.

For example, if you want your children to possess a sound financial education, why not take a course on that subject with them? You can also read books together. Opportunities to teach in a very natural appearing during the daily chores of our lives.

All we do is be willing to take the time, leaving aside our agenda and take the time to instruct them. This way your children will learn much more about real life will be better prepared to deal with the problems of adult life.

It’s not time to leave education in the hands of “experts.” Let us, the more we know and love our children, experts delivered a solid education that will give them the opportunity to be all that God intended them to be.
